Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery Website Changes

As of May 31st the new URL for JBJS will be www.jbjs.org (not ejbjs.org).

If you use their feature called "My File Cabinet" please be aware that any items saved there will not transfer. All you need to do is capture the URLs before May 23, 2011, so you can later save them again.

Journal content will still be accessible during their transition and you shouldn't notice any changes if you go through the Medical Library's web-based journals links. Our online content access is only available via hospital computers.

Journal of Pediatrics

5-4-2011: We do not have online access to Journal of Pediatrics. I have verified that and it has now been removed from the A to Z list by EBSCO. We have the print version back through v.74, 1969, so please come to the Medical Library to use this title.

5-3-2011: Do we have online access to Journal of Pediatrics? Elsevier's ScienceDirect link shows our institutional name as if we do.

All BMJ research articles are openly accessible online. All non-research articles published between 1840 and 2006 are also available free, but they do require registration.

RN ceases

The magazine RN has ceased with its September issue, v.72 (9), 2009, and merged into a publication called Healthcare Traveler, v.17 (4), 2009. We will not pay to renew Healthcare Traveler.

Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology

Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology -- have the 2 publishers involved changed what they are providing EBSCO?

That title switched publishers around 2006-2007, from Cambridge to Wiley. Previously I was still able to use the Cambridge link under "E-Journals from EBSCO" to access the earlier content and then use the Wiley link for the more current content. However, now the full text links from the EBSCO page under Cambridge only go to abstracts, not full articles. Actually I did reach a 2006 full text via that link, but the May 2004 and one I checked for 2002 only gave me abstracts.

When I try the Wiley link and go to the publisher site I randomly checked a few years and it seems I can get to full text all the way back into 1958.

We now have online access back to around 1995 for these 4 titles from Elsevier:

Acta Orthopaedica

We have online access to this title back through v.1, 1930. The EBSCO Open Access links take you there, or if you click on the publisher further into A to Z you can reach it. I am in the process of having the E-Journals from EBSCO corrected.

Occasional issues are only available in HTML. Not sure if that is a currency issue. Perhaps it will later switch to PDF.

APA new 6th edition -- helpful resources

semester. These APA modules are generic rather than program specific so they
may also be useful in your institutions.

need visuals.

The reference components may be helpful because each module looks in depth
at one specific element of the citation (authors/editors, date of

in the text and reference citations for one author, two authors, six
authors, eight authors (with ellipses), no author, corporate authors,

Joint Commission publications

Today, 7-14-09, a user reported that The Source was not working. It was showing access with a charge. In following up I discovered that all our Joint Commission titles handled by IngentaConnect had been de-activated. This is an error and they have responded promptly to correct this problem. PubMed Central

PubMed Central now includes a number of useful information points about the journals included in the database such as previous and future names of titles and the amount and period of free access available. "PubMed Central (PMC) is the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature."

Canadian Children

The journal Canadian Children is published twice yearly by the of the Canadian Association for Young Children (CAYC), "the only national association specifically concerned with the well being of children of preschool and elementary age in Canada." It offers a limited number of articles free at its website.

Reading Research Quarterly

Occasional issues of this title from the International Reading Association are available free online at

As of October, 2008, Paralyzed Veterans of America assumed the administrative functions of several societies, including their journals. These are the American Association of Spinal Cord Injury Nurses, the American Paraplegia Society and the American Association of SCI Psychologists and Social Workers.

HCPro has changed its website. It still works fine, just lots more white space to scroll through.

When you follow a newsletter link from our web-based journal list you will need to scroll down to the very bottom of the HCPro page to reach the newsletter. There it will ask for our username and password. After entering that you will need to scroll to the very bottom again to finally reach the newsletter itself. Please let me know if you encounter any problems.

Pre-CINAHL database merges into CINAHL

EBSCO has announced that as of March 31, 2009, the content we currently access in Pre-CINAHL will be merged into CINAHL to streamline the search process. The MEDLINE database is already handled that way.

If you wish to exclude these records in your CINAHL product search, you can use the "Exclude Pre-CINAHL" search limiter.

The new CINAHL Support Center (http://support.ebscohost.com/cinahl) is available whenever you need support in learning how to use CINAHL products

AMA journals

For 2009, institutional print subscriptions to AMA journals will include single user password online access. This affects our subscriptions to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Archives of Neurology and Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

EBSCO databases

The EBSCO databases are accessible from home for searching. Some full text may be accessible remotely without additional passwords, but some may require being on campus. Contact the librarian for our EBSCO system password.
